Pueblo Bonito is the most thoroughly investigated and celebrated cultural site in Chaco Canyon, which was constructed between AD 850 to AD 1150 by ancestral Puebloan peoples. It is considered as important as Stonehenge. After years of tribal requests, there is a proposal afoot to block new oil and gas leases within 10 miles of Chaco Canyon.
